East London Hip Hop crew Black Britanyaa thrive on doing things differently and bring you ‘The Windrush Volume 2’, so called because Volume 1 was the actual Black migrants!

Segge Dan and Daddy Ash are a couple of East End boys that know a bit of history taking their name from ‘Yaa’ (an African name for woman) and adding the “Brit an”. This year is the 60th Anniversary of the arrival of SS Empire Windrush at East London’s Tilbury Docks. That ship was the first arrival of black emigrants from the West Indies and second/third generation on, Black Britanyaa sees this event as Windrush Volume 1 whilst this CD is the Volume 2 musical update.

Yo don't bum (wind) rush the Black BritanYaa show!

This album is just spectacularly and brilliantly different. It’s different because it doesn’t have the usual beefs and sniping of rival rap acts or gloating about how many records they’ve sold which often permeate hip-hop records, which is fine, but ‘Windrush Vol.2’ from Black BritanYaa is a breath of fresh and fulfilling air. Instead Black BritanYaa actually has something significant to say on ‘Windrush Vol.2’, and they use the full revolutionary force of hip-hop, in which to say it.

Black Britanyaa prove that, despite much evidence to the contrary, Brits can do hip-hop; ‘The Windrush Vol 2’ is a really great album of universal hip-hop that tries to re-shape the genre slightly by adding ‘world’ influences to the normally very American ‘street’ genre.
Review of Windrush Vol. 2 on BBC Music
The Windrush 2 does justice to its concept in fine style.
BBC website, Angus Taylor
The phrase ‘‘conscious hip hop concept album’’ reeks of overblown conceits and college rehearsal room poetry. But there’s no need to run to the hills just yet. For Black Britanyaa’s The Windrush Volume 2 is the real thing: a celebration of sixty years of Black British endeavour and culture whose ambitions are matched by its execution.

Welcome to SeggeDan.com
Hey wassup people and welcome to my world of music, lyrics and life.
I am a music artist, educator and active charity worker. I use music as a way to engage young people in areas such as Literacy and Life skills and I chair a charity that is working on development projects in Africa. I can tell you I’ve been on a field trip and it certainly keeps you grounded.
I don’t do mainstream Hip Hop, I like to push the musical boundaries like The Roots or a Kanye West. Add the social commentary of Talib Kweli and the soul of a Common then you get an idea of Segge Dan.
My whole ethos is LOVE is LOVE like don’t worry about the stresses of life or sweat the small stuff because more often than not they will work themselves out.
I want my music to inspire people to FEEL something, DO something and BE something. Feel - whether laugh, cry, think or dance. Do - instead of talking just actually do something. Be - be love and be your potential.
Hope you enjoy the music and the site and don’t forget to spread the word!
